Health care sector to undergo reforms

The UAE healthcare sector will undergo massive reforms with several initiatives currently under process at the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Some of these initiatives included a revision of drug registration law, a new system to control prescription drugs, the establishment of the Emirates Health Authority and the introduction of smart evaluation certificate.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Healthcare Innovative Summit (InnovHealth) in the capital on Sunday, ?Dr Amin Al Amiri, CEO of Medical ?Practice and Licence at MoH, said the ministry will come out with a revised law on drug registration aimed at coping with the new trends of medicine and new developments in the country, as well as, in response to the demands to give more support for the private sector of the pharmaceutical industry.

Ministry of Health says changes are needed to overcome challenges to healthcare provision in the Middle East

InnovHealth - Middle East Innovations Summit, was officially opened this morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by an opening address by Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, Acting Director General, Ministry of Health - United Arab Emirates - at the Yas Island Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Call for change to TB deportation law

The law that requires compulsory deportation of expatriates with tuberculosis is counterproductive and should be changed, a senior health official said yesterday.

Dr Ali al Marzooqi, the director of public health and safety at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said fear of deportation causes most expatriates with the disease to “disappear” once they are diagnosed.

Speaking at InnovHealth 2010, a two-day health conference in Abu Dhabi, Dr al Marzooqi also said the private sector should be allowed to treat patients with TB.

Enigma ML instrument system to be showcased at InnovHealth 2010 summit

Dubai Health Authority calls for a unified reporting healthcare mechanism to eradicate tuberculosis

Dubai – April 21, 2010 – Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has confirmed its participation in the InnovHealth – Middle East Healthcare Innovations Summit, hosted by business information group naseba, in Abu Dhabi on April 25th-26th. The DHA’s objective is to raise awareness for Tuberculosis (TB) in the region.

The DHA, which was established in 2007 to set policies and strategies for health, is keen to use InnovHealth 2010’s strategic platform to reach a selective audience of leading health authorities and professionals from across the region. It is calling for a unified reporting mechanism in the country to fortify proposed laws to ensure that people coming to reside in the UAE from a TB endemic country are screened before leaving.

Dr. Ali Hassan Al Marzooqi, Director of Public Health, DHA said “Consider the unique population demography in the GCC and in particular Dubai, where we are witnessing huge number of people from TB endemic countries coming to live and work. While TB is considered an easy disease to diagnose and manage with relatively inexpensive medicine, adhering to treatment protocols is very important, and many patients fail to do so. Most countries are equipped to deal with it, so it’s just a matter of creating awareness and gaining cooperation.”

LyondellBasell showcases cutting-edge polymer at InnovHealth 2010 summit in UAE

Abu Dhabi, April 15th 2010 – Petrochemical and polymer company LyondellBasell has confirmed attendance at the InnovHealth - Middle East Healthcare Innovations Summit – endorsed by the UAE’s Ministry of Health – in Abu Dhabi.
